Library + MacBook = Crazy Delicious!

Apple MacBook

What's better than a brand new Apple MacBook? A new MacBook with Delicious Library, of course!

Delicious Library works perfectly with the built-in iSight camera in the new Intel-based MacBook, MacBook Pro, and iMac. The iSight acts as a barcode scanner inside Delicious Library, making the easiest to catalogue all your media -- we studied algorithms developed by astronomers to refocus blurry images of stars, and used this technology to enable the internal iSights in Apple's products. And, while we were at it, we made our barcode scanning with external, FireWire iSights up to 200 times more accurate. So, if you haven't tried it lately, grab a book and give it a spin -- it's a free download!

Meanwhile, we here at Delicious Monster are hard at work on Delicious Library 2, and we think it is going to totally blow you away. I mean, you'll actually be dead. Which will be sad, and all, but you'll have a smile on your face.

Yeah, but the name of the company is Delicious Monster, they just had to use it eventually, and since they haven't posted anything in 4 months, it was worth the wait...

When will the beta testors get their hands on a 2.0 beta to mess around with? :) I'm fortunate enough to have gotten in on the last round.

Glad to hear that work on Delicious Library 2 is continuing, but I'd love to hear more. When can we find out about the new features, and do your guys have any feel for a release date?

Do you plan to have a signup for people that are interested in beta testing?

Weldon: We just recently had a call for beta testers on Wil's blog, but we may do another round before 2.0 goes beta. You can always just email me directly (my first name at this company dot com) if you feel like you are especially qualified or something.

Luke: We have a target date in our heads, and a lot of new features have been added so far, but at this point we're not ready to announce anything yet.

Will 2.0 be a free upgrade or will we have to pay?

I've been trying the demo with my new MacBook...on the basis of that I wouldn't buy the program right now--it *really* sucks reading barcodes on the MacBook. OUt of the twenty or so items I've put in front of the camera DL has successfully processed four. Guess that astromony algo needs some work. :)

Make sure you have lots of light in the room where you are scanning, and that as many red lines as possible cross the barcode perpendicularly. Scanning can take a little bit of practice at first, but once you get the hang of it, you should be able to scan your items really quickly.

I love your program... But where i come from (denmark) there is almost no books, films, cd's etc that delicious library finds... Suppose you should find a danish service like Amazon to expand with... The public librarys in Denmark has this avilability I think....

I read this, and a few other people's comments, and definitely am having the same problems other people posted. My Macbook Pro isight maybe gets 1 out of every 15 barcodes. The light in the room is fine, and when I had an Intel iMac in the same room, that one worked fine as well. I've gone back to using my barcode scanner.

I'm just wondering if DL 2.0 will be a free upgrade or not? I hope that mac to mac library syncing will be a feature.

I love it but I have a wish list...

- integrate into iWeb so I can push a button and put up a page that I can share with my friends...brag about my library and they can browse without coming over to my place. Also, I can look up my library online from anywhere.

- integrate with .mac so it backs up and updates in a secure location (of course I can make the tab delimited file do this but...)

- have a running total value or a place that compiles your library value. I love seeing that some of my stuff is worth more than I paid for it!

- explain what the value is based on. if the lowest price available on Amazon is $9, why is my book valued at $2?

I had a little trouble scanning from my MacBook Pro at first, but once I found the right spot and angle it helped a lot. It was further away than the 3" you suggest though...

Thanks...I can't wait to see what develops!

Oh, I forgot one more thing... When I search, it should search ALL information in the summary and review, not just the title and author. Doesn't it seem logical?

There is some things i miss in DL;

1. An export function, to formats like XML and HTML(CSS).
2. More sources, Amazon does NOT have all my CDs and almost NONE of my books. I would love somthing like CDDB2. I understand that you won't use CDDB2 because of the license, but somthing like it would be wonderfull.
3. Well, thats all I guess :-) Love your app!

I came across Delicious Monster early last year and just upgraded my G4 PowerBook to a MacBook. Within the first five minutes of booting up my machine (i.e., Molly) I was on your site downloading Delicious Library. And now, I've spent the last hour or so scanning our movies. It is awesome! Love the look, love the ease of use, love the $40 price tag, especially after forking out $1300+ for the MacBook. If you are looking for people to beta test, sign me up!
