Delicious Tip: Process of Elimination

Process of Elimination

Everyone knows Delicious Library is a great way to catalog your DVD collection, but were you aware it's also a great way to pick which movie to watch?

You can create shelves in Delicious Library as a permanent way to categorize items, but they can also be great and easy way to decide on a movie.

To add a shelf, press:
Add Shelf

To begin the process of elimination, add a new shelf and drag all of your movies in. Then, switch to the shelf and delete movies as you rule them out (starting with ones you've seen recently). If you're in a group, take turns eliminating. Keep going until you've narrowed it down to your pick for the night.

Happy movie watching!

wouldn't it be nice if Delicious Library knew if we had watched the DVD recently on our computator?

That's all great. But how about a way to change the order of my shelves, or "smart-shelves", while we're at it.

Don't get me wront - I love your product. But a small update with a few additional features and bugfixes would surely be nice, every once in a while.

Delicious Library may not have smart shelves but you can use smart folders in the finder with your collection.

Just create a new smart folder and click the default attribute and in the drop down go to other. find something like starring and type someone's name... steve martin. Now you have a smart folder you can save to your desktop or someplace.

Jonathan, good call! This is a great way to make smart shelves of Delicious Library items.

(Also, it is like you read my mind! This was on my to-do list for future potential tips.)

Let's see if you guys can nab any of my other tips before I even have time to write about them. :)

I would love to see a connection to iTunes. I have all of my CD's loaded onto iTunes, as well as listed into Delicious Library. It would be cool if I could click on the album in Delicious Library and have it play in iTunes. Is this a likely possibility?

Lo all,

this is the place where those smart folders would be put at great use:
there is a "played/read" checkbox in the "My Info" tab of each movie.
so combining the rating, purchase date and a "played/read" data would allow very easy tracking of played movies, and easy selection.

using genres would allow to make a "Comedy to watch", "Sci fi to watch" or "comedies I've not seen in a while"...

so Smart Folders I think is a top priority in this kind of app...

Would like to see some more printing options such as larger cover views. Would also like to be able to sort custom shelves (the shelves themselves, not the content) by title or author.

Otherwise it's a great product. My wife loves it.

Anyone know of a practical limit for number of items?
