Mike's mad press junket!

Mike talked to a Wired reporter for a long time on Thursday, and was really excited about the interview -- he felt like the guy really understood that fundamental things we were trying to do with Library, and was asking exactly kinds of questions that indicated he really _got_ it. You can judge for yourself; I think it's a great article, and does hint at how we want to knock everyone's socks off with the 2.0 version:

Wired: Monster Fueled by Caffeine

Wil,

I know you're bummed about missing the O'Reilly party for Andy's book launch at Macworld, so I'll try to cheer you up.

I went over to your booth looking for *you* to tell *you* about the party, and I was rather surprised when Mike told me that you didn't come down for the show. So, I told Mike and the rest of your crew to come on by the Thirsty Bear at 7:00, and that they'd be glad they did.

They expressed some concern about whether they'd be able to get into the bar (you're right, it *is* funny), but I said that I don't remember being carded at any previous O'Reilly party. (Could be because I'm almost FORTY-ONE years old, but still...)

Gale and I grabbed a cab back to our hotel, and then got over to the Thirsty Bear. So, let me tell you about how bad the party was... The worst thing was that my feet were killing me from walking around the show floor all day, checking out cool stuff like Delicious Library and the latest versions of the apps that your old buddies at Omni are working on (outline mode in Graffle is very cool, BTW).

Ok, my sore feet really didn't have anything to do with the party, but you'd think O'Reilly could have arranged for professional foot massages for their guests. Sheesh!

Anyhow, I finally got to meet Woz, and got him to sign my copy of Andy's book. You should have been there! Woz is a great guy! I introduced Mike to Bud Tribble, and they talked for a bit about UI and stuff. I got to have a nice chat with a few of my own colleagues about the Mac Mini, the iPod Shuffle, Apple's stock price, etc, I drank five or six cokes on O'Reilly's tab (thanks, Betsy!), and I had a nice chat with Chuck Toporek, who would have been my editor if Apple hadn't hired me just as I was about to start on updating a NetInfo book for OS X.

Wil: if you don't like the show floor, then just come on down for the parties. We missed you!
